Introduction to Safe Falling Mechanics and Assisted Falls

You will really fall for this class! Martial Artist Denise Terry will describe and demonstrate the principals of fall safety. Participants will also learn how to safely manage a falling client. There will be an opportunity to practice some of the useful skills taught by Ms. Terry; so wear loose-fitting clothes.

 

Target Audience

Supervisors and those who assist others with activities of daily living (ADL's); particularly, Ambulation or Functional Transfers (Bed to Wheelchair, Wheelchair to Toilet, etc)

 

Learning Objectives

A.    Attendees will acquire a general understanding of the importance falls play in a long term care setting for caregivers and clients

B.    Attendees will learn techniques for effectively managing a fall.

C.    Participants will be relatively more likely to effectively manage a falling person for whom they provide care and thus prevent an injury to that person.

D.    Participants will be relatively less likely to suffer an injury from ineffectively managing a falling person for whom they provide care.

E.     Participants will be relatively less likely to suffer an injury to themselves if they fall.
