
On January 1, 2018, AB 1008 “Ban the Box” or “Fair Chance Act” went into effect. The bill generally bans employers with 5 or more employees from asking about conviction history before hiring. Licensed care facilities are largely exempt from this law. The state requires care facilities to conduct criminal background checks, and precludes these licensed facilities from hiring anyone with a conviction:
