Workers Compensation premiums are typically one of the largest expenses associated with operating a care facility. Effectively managing workers compensation costs can be a major factor in whether a care facility is financially able to carry out its mission. This series of seminars will convey the main concepts required to implement a workers’ compensation cost containment program resulting in a reduction in workers’ compensation costs.

The seminar consist of four different classes, which are listed below. The participant can participate in one, some or all of the four courses as desired. Successfully completing all 4 seminars will earn the attendee a certificate that designates them as an Associate in Workers’ Compensation Cost Containment.

Class 1: Basics of Workers' Compensation Cost Containment
Participants will acquire a basic understanding of the basic components of an effective Workers’ Compensation Cost Containment system.

Class 2: Post Workers' Compensation Claim Cost Containment
It is important for employers to understand their role in managing a workers’ compensation claim. During this second of four WC Cost Containment classes, participants will learn about post-claim elements and their impact on Workers’ Compensation Cost Containment.

Class 3: Workers' Compensation Safety & Indemnity Management
Providing a safe work environment and managing indemnity payments are crucial to maintaining an efficient, productive business as well as reducing insurance costs. During this third of four WC Cost Containment classes, the facilitator will outline key elements of successful employee safety and wellness programs as well as identify effective methods for managing an injured employee’s return to work and directing medical care.

Class 4: Working With Third Parties to Manage Workers' Compensation Costs
Employers must partner with insurance/risk management professionals, adjusters, medical providers, attorneys, and WC coordinators, to maintain an effective WC cost containment system. Understanding and managing these areas can result in a substantial reduction of an employer’s expenses. During this last of the four WC Cost Containment classes, the primary objective will be illustrating how to select and work with third parties to manage and reduce workers’ compensation costs. Attendees will learn the basics of claims resolution and settlements, managing medical and drug costs, and reducing workers’ compensation fraud.
